Back to Havana: Rediscovering Our Roots.

Earlier this year, we hand-picked some of our rum-loving team to pack their bags and make a journey to where it all began; Havana, Cuba.

With a mix of our central Support Centre team and Managers from across the country, we went not just for the sunshine (though that helped), but for something far more important: inspiration.

For us, Revolución de Cuba isn’t just a name, it’s a story – and we’re turning the page to bring you it’s most authentic chapter yet.

The Spirit of Havana, Cuba.

From the buzzing atmosphere of El Floridita (you know the one, Ernest Hemingway’s favourite bar) to the iconic walls of La Bodeguita del Medio (perhaps the birth place of the Mojito… more on that later), we immersed ourselves in the heart of Cuban culture.

We wandered through San Jose Market, caught the sunset in Old Havana whilst witnessing the iconic vintage cars parked along the streets, we soaked up the rhythm at Club Tropicana, and stood in awe inside the Museo de la Revolución.

We even paid a visit to the Havana Club distillery; the beating heart of Cuba’s rum legacy.

What struck us most wasn’t just the places, the buildings or even the weather, it was the people. Resourceful, proud, sociable.

They don’t have much, but they make it count. That’s the Cuban way; do more with less, take your time, make it matter, and always make it joyful where you can.

It’s a way of life we’re bringing home with us.

A New Chapter for Our Cocktail Menu.

One of the first things to refresh? The drinks.

We’ve fine-tuned our cocktail menu by stripping out anything that didn’t feel quite right, and making space for traditional serves that reflect what you’d find in the bars of Havana.

Expect rich, rum-forward classics, and inspired by La Bodeguita del Medio we’re changing the way we craft our Mojitos. They’re now made exactly the way they should be – with all the mint, the freshest lime slices, and lashings of sugar, all paired with quality premium Havana Club rum, before being topped with soda.

To speed things up without compromising on flavour, we’re now proudly showcasing Mojito towers on our bars. An iconic visual reminder that for us, the Mojito isn’t just a cocktail. It’s a ritual. A fine craft, and a symbol of everything we’re about.

A Cuban Brand Reborn — Textured, Faded, Real.

This evolution is more than just what’s in your glass.

We’re moving away from the bold, poppy colours and patterns. Instead, we’re leaning into something more traditional; faded tones, rich textures, and a more grounded, soulful energy that reflects the real Havana: vibrant in spirit, but never over-the-top.

Our trip to Latin-American has reconnected us with what truly matters; live music, quality rum, exceptional service, and good times shared by all.

It just feels right, doesn’t it?

Whether you’ve been with us from the start or you’re brand new to the world of Revolución de Cuba, now’s the perfect time to (re)discover everything we’re about.

Combining the rich and earthy mushrooms with bold Cajun spices, Cajun Cream Mushrooms has been a staple of our Tapas menu for over a decade and is an uncontested guest favourite.

Influenced by the traditional cooking styles from Louisiana, the home of Cajun food, this comforting dish consists of sautéed mushrooms in a creamy and spicy sauce and is the perfect accompaniment to other Tapas dishes for a Latin feast, or on its own as a side or starter.

Cajun Cream Mushrooms

Serves: 2

Spice level: 🌶🌶 (un poco picante)

You’ll need:

30g garlic oil

95g mushrooms

75g Cajun cream sauce

5g fresh coriander

Heat the garlic oil and cook the mushrooms

Pour 30g of garlic oil into a pan over a medium heat. Add the mushrooms and sautée for about 5-7 minutes or until cooked through.

Add seasoning and the sauce

Add the Cajun seasoning to the pan followed by the Cajun cream sauce, then lower the heat and reduce the cream until it’s thick and coats the mushrooms completely.

Season to taste and serve

Season with salt and pepper to taste before pouring into your desired serving dish. Garnish with a sprinkle of fresh coriander and enjoy!

Hearty, filling and delicious, the burrito is one of the most popular Latin-American dishes around the world. Tasty meats, beans and rice, cheese and more wrapped in a soft tortilla, this beloved street food classic is a lunch-time or dinner go-to on our menu, along with our equally as delicious Burrito Bowls.

Served without the tortilla as a lighter and fresher alternative, our Burrito Bowls are packed with all the same flavour and tasty goodness as a Burrito including Mojo Chicken, Veggie Chilli and Slow-Cooked Beef. With rice, beans, peppers and guacamole, it’s the perfect option for a protein-packed lunch or dinner (and the perfect chance to use our guacamole recipe!)

With a history traced back to the Aztecs, guacamole has become a cherished staple of Latin American cuisine. Its name comes from the Nahuatl word ahuacamolli which loosely translates to ‘avocado sauce’, a hint to its primary ingredient.

While on a trip to Cuba, our founders were shown first-hand how to make the most delicious guacamole they’d ever tasted, and they took that recipe directly back to our bars. Now this creamy, flavourful dip is light and versatile, and can be found in many dishes throughout our menu.

While it’s a welcome addition to our Nachos, Burritos, Sunshine Salad and more, often the simple addition of a tortilla chip allows its vibrant taste to shine best. Who doesn’t love a side of Chips, Guac & Salsa?

If you can’t get enough guacamole in your life (especially ours), you’re in luck. Find out how we achieve our Cuban twist on a classic recipe below.

The Music Fund for Cuba has been playing a vital role in fostering talent and providing opportunities in Cuba. This UK-based charity is dedicated to supporting the island’s vibrant cultural landscape by offering vital resources to musicians, artists, and educators and is the only registered charity in the UK doing so.

What is the Music Fund for Cuba?

Founded in 2001, the Music Fund for Cuba focuses on promoting cultural and educational development in Cuba. The charity provides musical instruments, materials, and funding to support music and performing arts education, with a broader mission of enhancing creative expression and preserving Cuba’s rich cultural heritage.

The charity’s efforts extend beyond music, focusing on the interconnected worlds of dance, visual arts, and theatre while ensuring a holistic impact on Cuban culture.

Why Cuba?

Cuba has a rich tradition of music and art, influencing genres like jazz, salsa, and son. However many artists and educators lack the tools and resources they need to nurture their creativity. The Music Fund for Cuba steps in to bridge this gap, ensuring that young and aspiring artists have access to instruments, training, and opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach.

How Does the Charity Work?

The Music Fund for Cuba collaborates with schools, community organisations, and cultural institutions in Cuba to identify areas of need. Their initiatives include:

Donating Instruments: Many Cuban musicians rely on old or damaged instruments. The charity collects and refurbishes instruments, sending them directly to schools and community groups.

Funding Scholarships: Supporting talented students who lack financial resources to continue their education in the arts.

Providing Resources: Supplying sheet music, dance shoes, and other essential materials.

Supporting Cultural Exchange: Facilitating collaborations between UK and Cuban artists, fostering mutual learning and cultural enrichment.

The world of Cuban music has been shaped by many talents, but few have made left such a mark as Manuel “Guajiro” Mirabal. Known as one of Cuba’s most legendary trumpet players, Mirabal embodied the vibrant spirit of music genres such as Son Cubano and Afro-Cuban jazz. The likes of which can be heard throughout all of our bars today and play a vital role in immersing our guests in the true spirit of Cuba.

His journey and contributions to the scene spanned decades, making him a beloved icon whose influence will inspire generations to come.

A Journey Through the Roots of Cuban Music

Born in 1933 in Melena del Sur, a small town in Cuba’s Havana province, Manuel Mirabal discovered his love for music early in life. The cultural richness of his rural surroundings inspired his nickname Guajiro, which refers affectionately to a rural farmer or a countryman.

Mirabal began his musical journey in the 1950s, a time when Cuban music was gaining international acclaim. He joined bands and orchestras across Havana, playing at the legendary Tropicana Club and collaborating with some of the era’s most influential musicians. His mastery over the trumpet and natural understanding of rhythm quickly made him one of the most sought-after trumpet players in Cuba.

The Buena Vista Social Club: A New Chapter

Although Mirabal had already established himself as a gifted musician, it was his involvement with the Buena Vista Social Club that brought his talents to global attention. In the 1990s, Ry Cooder, an American guitarist and producer, set out to revive the golden age of Cuban music by bringing together some of the island’s best traditional musicians. Mirabal’s passion and skill earned him a place among this historic group, alongside legends like Compay Segundo, Ibrahim Ferrer, and Rubén González.

With Buena Vista Social Club, Mirabal’s trumpet became synonymous with Cuba’s son and bolero music, adding depth to unforgettable tracks like ‘Chan Chan’, ‘El Rincon Caliente’ and ‘El Cuarto de Tula’. The album became an international phenomenon, and the Grammy-winning success of Buena Vista Social Club reintroduced the world to the beauty of Cuban music.

A Legacy in Brass and Heart

Mirabal’s influence extended beyond just playing; he represented the resilience and cultural richness of Cuba. His trumpet performances resonated not only with the notes he played but also with the legacy of Cuban tradition and the struggles of its people. Through tours and performances, he introduced countless audiences to the intricate sounds of Son Cubano and the emotional depth of Afro-Cuban jazz.

He also released his own album, Buena Vista Social Club Presents Manuel Guajiro Mirabal, in 2004. The album, infused with classic Cuban styles, was Mirabal’s homage to the music that shaped him, serving as both a personal and cultural tribute.

Gracias, Guajiro

Manuel “Guajiro” Mirabal will be remembered not just as a musician but as a storyteller, an ambassador of Cuban heritage, and a trumpet maestro whose notes captured the beauty of a nation. From the familia at Revolución de Cuba, gracias Guajiro for immersing us in Cuban culture through your trumpet.
