cocktails
During the prohibition, when alcohol was banned in the USA (boo!). The American high society fled to Cuba in search of good times. This weekend party exodus made Havana the original party island getaway.
It was in this time, that the original cocktails such as 'mojitos' and 'cuba libres' were invented, transforming rum (the local tipple) into party drinks for the American A-listers.
At Revolucion De Cuba, we celebrate the original and classic cocktails in all their glory. Be it short, high ball, frozen or blended we have the perfect rum cocktail for you.
You can take a look at our signature cocktails online, but if you get bored of licking the screen just pop in and try one!

Mai Tai
This classic cocktail also has a story behind it and would you believe, Donn Beach is back! Invented by Victor “Trader Vic” Bergeron in California 1944, Donn Beach claimed he had created the recipe back in 1933. Here at Revolucion de Cuba HQ, we have tried and tested (and tested and tested) and we believe that Trader Vic’s is the winning Mai Tai and so we give credit to both bartenders on our cocktail menu!
So the story goes, Trader Vic created this drink for some friends who were visiting from Tahiti. One of his friends cried out “Maita’i roa ae!” literally meaning "very good!" figuratively "Out of this world! The Best!" – hence its name.

Mojitos
Starting life as ‘The Draque’ in 1586, it was named after an English Privateer known as Drake and made using rough-as-old-boots Aguardiente - a harsh potent spirit, but the only rum they could get their hands on at the time.
Fortunately, by the late 1800s, thanks to Don Facundo Bacardi Masso, the founder of Bacardi, rum had finally found its mojo (yeah baby!) ‘The Draque’ transformed into the far more enchanting Mojito, which means “little spell” in Creole.

Pinchers
Viva Cuba! The story of Cuba is long and far reaching (so lets make it short and sweet!) Rum is made from a by product of sugar cane called Molasses, first discovered by Christopher Columbus in the 15th century. Cuba had the ideal climate for growing sugar cane and it quickly moved from a luxury to a commodity, becoming more valuable than tobacco.
Rum started life with a bad reputation, referred to as Kill Devil due to its harsh, unrefined taste and its links to slavery and pirates. Now, thanks to the likes of Don Facundo Bacardi, it is a refined spirit enjoyed the world over in all manner of drinks...Lets have a look at our faves!

Tea Pots
Warning! Does not contain tea! These exciting drinks stem from the prohibition period in America in the 1930s when alcohol was banned (crazy) and underground taverns known as ‘speakeasies’ were rife. It was in these haunts that the glorious cocktail was given life and served in obscure objects to disguise the fact that alcohol was being consumed, the most common being a teapot.
The enamel teapots that you find your punch served in at Revolución de Cuba, are in honour of the Cuban revolutionary fighters who still craved a party as they hunkered down in the mountains sharing tea and coffee ‘strengthened’ with a bit of fortifying spirit!

Zombie
In 1931, a reckless 24-year-old washed up South of California, looking for something to do. A native of New Orleans, Ernest Gantt who fondly became known as the legendary Donn Beach, was one of the original bootleggers supplying alcohol during the prohibition period. After a few years of ‘testing’ a couple of rums (cough) he moved to Hollywood, opened up a Polynesian inspired bar and created the famous rum fuelled ‘Zombie’.
Donn enforced a two limit rule on this cocktails due to its potency. Legend has it that many people, Sailors and customers alike would challenge Donn to consuming more than the regulated ‘two per customer’. Many tried, but always failed. Variations of the cocktail have been seen around the world, but we believe our recipe sticks to the original.
