5 desserts you HAVE to try before you die

We’re Cuban, so you’re probably not surprised that we’re partial to a little indulgence here and there.

Just a little bit of indulgence, really. Definitely not a lot. Oh no. Except, obviously... Well, when it comes to delicious dessert crazes – of course, which we’re all about.

So, remember when the cronut came to town? Well, move over all you croissant-doughnut hybrids out there, ’cause there’s a new kid on the block. Or two. Or three.

You mean, you’ve never even heard of a cruffin, let alone tasted one? Well, you’ve never lived.

Now without further ado, here are THE foodie dessert trends of 2017 you really need to try. Enjoy!

Beignets from Café du Monde, New Orleans

If you’ve always wanted a flavour of the Big Easy, look no further than these delicious treats straight outta New Orleans.

A staple of the French Quarter since the 18th century, beignets are puffs of fried dough covered in powdered sugar for a kiss of sweetness.

If you want your beignets as traditional as they come, and don’t mind getting a flight to New Orleans, pop on over to the charming Café du Monde, a place steeped in history and serving up the best beignets in the business.

Take it from us though, you’re definitely going to need some wet wipes with you, ‘cause it tends to get messy after two... Or ten.

Macarons from Ladurée, Paris

Ah, Paris. Known for the fine food, the romance, and generally being a lot more interesting than your own home city.

When it comes to devilishly sweet macarons, it’s impossible to look anywhere other than one of the most popular macaron maisons (yes, they are really called that) in the world, Ladurée.

With six stores in the city of Paris alone, including one at the Champs-Elysées, prepare to be overjoyed by the rich hues, the sheer range of inventive flavours, and the unmistakeable aroma of almonds in action.

We’ll be right back, we’re just going to book our flights.

Pastel-Coloured Cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery, New York

Dessert trends come and go, but there will never be a time where we won’t crave a moist, single-serving cupcake topped with a flourish of decadent icing.

So if you happen to find yourself pounding around the Big Apple, make sure to treat yourself to some of the best cupcakes the city has to offer at Magnolia Bakery.

If you get distracted by ALL the delicious choices on offer, we recommend one of the bakery’s newest offerings, the banana pudding cupcake.

Filled with banana curd and topped with banana cream and a crunchy vanilla wafer, it’s a complete slamdunk. Anyone else salivating?

Cruffins from Pollen Bakery, Manchester

Rain. Canals. Liam Gallagher. Manchester is synonymous with many things, none of which are really considered very yummy. Expect maybe Vimto. Vimto is ok.

But then, the cruffin came along, and everything we know and love did change.

A cross between a croissant and a – you guessed it – muffin, the cruffin is a unique pastry, filled with flavoured cream or curd.

Indie Manc bakery Pollen kicked off the craze by rolling up buttery croissant dough and baking it in muffin tins. And it’s every bit as brilliant as you can image.

So much so, cruffin-craving locals have been known to queue for over an hour in the hopes of getting their hands on one of these sweet treats. Now that’s dedication.

And finally... Our Churros!

Just one crunchy bite of these indulgent sticks of delicately fried dough is enough to transport you and your taste buds to a family kitchen in Old Havana. You’ll be set up with more good vibes than you can shake, you know, a churro at.

They’re light, lovely and actually, pretty darn fantastic to look at, plus fun for sharing with friends.

And the best part about our final entry... You can get authentically made churros right here at Revolución de Cuba!

For our own take, we’ve dusted them with sugar, then served with a rich chocolate sauce as well as our homemade rum caramel sauce. So good, we’ll guarantee you won’t be able to resist a cheeky double-dip.
